Mr. Leroy Turney

May 25, 1935 ~ December 30, 2022

Mr. Leroy Turney, age 87, went home to be with the Lord on Friday December 30, 2022 at Moses Cone Hospital.

‍

A funeral service will be 1:30 Thursday, January 5, at Community Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Davis and Rev. JR Gossett officiating the service.  Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends 6:00pm-8:00pm Wednesday at Community Baptist Church Family Life Center.

Leroy was born in Surry County to the late James and Mary Nunn Turney. He was a longtime and faithful member of Community Baptist Church where he served with his wood working talents.  He retired from Serta Mattress Company and had a wood working business at his home.

‍

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends by coaching softball at Pleasant Garden Community Center and the Serta Mattress softball team, going fishing and vacationing at the beach, or spending time with his grandsons in the woodworking shop. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and loved working in his vegetable garden and watching his favorite westerns shows, including Gunsmoke.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons Terry and Blake Turney, and one bonus grandson.

‍

Mr. Turney is survived by his loving wife, of sixty-nine years, Annie Turney; children Nadine Turney Mason and John Turney all of Greensboro; daughters-in-laws Linda Turney of Utah and Jessica Mason.  He was adored by his nine grandchildren, two bonus grandsons, and ten great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Community Baptist Church, 1330 Burnetts Chapel Rd. Greensboro, NC 27406 or to St. Jude’s Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105.
